Leading Change for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Leading Change for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a core offering under OSU’s Academic Leadership Academy coordinated by the offices of Faculty Affairs and Human Resources.

This program is grounded in the scholarship of diversity leadership and aligned with the vision detailed in OSU’s Diversity Strategic Plan and Strategic Plan 4.0.

Leading Change will prepare academic unit leaders—including deans, school directors and department heads—to effectively:

  • Lead organizational change toward achievement of diversity, equity and inclusion goals;
  • Build coalitions to develop and advance strategic priorities;
  • Facilitate organizational learning at individual, team and systems levels;
  • Respond with care to communities in conflict and crisis.

Leading Change is intended as an action-based complement to ADVANCE training and is organized in four modules:

  • Module 1: The Big Picture
    • Integrating strategic plans, institutional metrics, and insights from local and national trends to imagine and mobilize a shared vision for diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Module 2: Leading Change
    • Wielding theories of organizational change and adaptive planning process to assess and monitor progress toward inclusive excellence.
  • Module 3: Facilitating Learning
    • Conceptualizing and communicating cultural competence at the organizational level and modeling inclusive and critical pedagogical practices.
  • Module 4: Responding with Care
    • Balancing advocacy and empowerment in response to bias and pursuing justice and restoration in conflict and crisis.

Grounded in applied learning, Leading Change will be delivered through both synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning modes. The learning experience will be active, dialogic and problem-based, delivered in four half-day sessions. Additional details are available here.

The Fall 2021 cohort is currently accepting participants. Please email Jeff Kenney at [email protected] if you are interested in participating. Jeff will also answer any questions you have about Leading Change.
